A lot has happened since our last post - the ringing room extension is finished and it's time for our 2010 tour already.

I will post pics of ringing room extension at some point but first to this year's tour....

We had our ringers dinner at the Cock in Hemingford Grey on Wednesday 31st March. Becky had the camera so I'll post some pics.

Great food - good company. Thanks to John for organising!

The ringers have been busy this weekend both with our entry to the Christmas Tree Festival and also ringing to open the Festival. Watch out for the pictures!

St Peter and St Pauls, Weedon Bec.

The Church had a more modern fell although it dates back to the 1800's. Incidentally the Parish share here was £12,603 - If I were the guys at Nether Heyford I'd demand a recount!

The ringing room was on the ground floor and there were 8 bells here.

All Sants, Braunstone

After lunch we hurried down the road to All Saints.

Although the Church had a more modern feel than some we visited it clearly has a long history

The village of Braunston lies between the towns of Rugby and Daventry on the Warwickshire-Northamptonshire border. It is an important location on the Inland Waterways Network, the meeting point of the Grand Union and Oxford Canals.

Although the church had a more modern feel tha some we visited it clearly has a long history (and a tall spire!) ...

"Early records show that in 1552 there were 'iiij bells in ye steeple & a sanct' (sanctus) bell'. In 1672 these ancient bells were cast into a ring of six by Richard Keene of Woodstock. No 3 was recast in 1681, founder unknown. All six bells were again recast by John Briant of Hertford in 1811 and hung in an oak frame. So far as we know the bells and frame were transferred into the present building in 1849. The weight of the largest (tenor) bell is about 15 1/2 cwt, - ringers still describe bells in Imperial measure. For the younger generation this is 784 kg., just over three quarters of a tonne. In 1922 the bells were retuned and installed in the present all-metal frame and fittings by John Taylor of Loughborough."

Lunch time then ..and again John and Cass had us well organised. The Admiral Nelson at Braunstone (only a couple of minutes from our next church) had been booked and with the food pre-ordered everything should have been like clockwork. Unfortunately the pub weren't as well organised as John and Cass and we had to wait ages for our food....

Mind you it was nice when it finally got there!

The pub sits right on the canal so we were able to watch the narrow boats go by...

All Saints, Flore

Last stop before lunch was very close to the last church, this one was All Saints, Flore - the tower was up a narrow spiral staircase and through the small window had views over lovely rolling countryside.

Inside the Church was very nicely kept:

A beautiful little village with an equally pretty little church. I did notice that with an electoral roll of only 34 people the church met its Parish Share of £17,584 - seems like a great achievement to me!

So we left Gamlingay at abot 8:30 to head for our first port of call, near Towcester... St. Mary's Easton Neaston.

St. Mary's is a beautiful little "estate" church hidden along a very quiet dead end road. The church is lovely inside with unusal pews and an interesting screen behind the altar carved with bats, spiders and mice. The tower is attached to the church with it's own door - quite a snug ringing room at ground level and 8 bells.
